VK Fiesta SportingTrophy UK 2008 Champions
|
For 2009 M-Sport, the team behind Ford’s FIA World Rally Championship
programme is delighted to once again bring, for a fourth consecutive year,
the exciting Fiesta SportTrophy (FST) to the UK.
The exciting new look seven round mixed surface series will start with the
Malcolm Wilson Rally based at the team's Dovenby Hall HQ in Cockermouth.
After the first round the series will link up with the UK’s top rally
championship, the British Rally Championship and follow selected rounds of
the series for the rest of the season whilst also taking in the Scottish Rally in
June. The year will end with Rally Yorkshire in September. All the events will
be National B / International format to allow competitors to join the series at
any point and compete in not only the FST but also the BRC and the BRC
Challenge.
On-Event technical support for the one-make championship will once again
come from Malcolm Wilson’s M-Sport Team who will attend each round with
full parts support, and the championship will be administered from the
Dovenby Headquarters.
The championship is aimed at all competitors, young and old, experienced
and amateur, all with the aim of enjoying close competition allied to
professional support.
M-Sport is offering a prize fund that will provide financial support for
competitors down to eighth on each round, with the winner on each round
receiving £750 plus additional product support. At the end of the season,
the winner will receive the opportunity to compete on the final round of the
Intercontinental Rally Challenge; The UK RAC MSA Rally of Scotland in an MSport
prepared and maintained Ford Fiesta R2 as part of the M-Sport team.
The winner will be required to do their own recce after which M-Sport will
provide the winner with all that is required to compete on this event. The top
finisher in the championship and one ‘wildcard’ will win the opportunity to
go forward to the FST International Shootout. The highest placed FST and
BRC registered junior driver will also receive an automatic place on the 2009
Pirelli Star Driver Shootout competition.
In keeping with a series of ‘tweaks’ to the series this year, Global Brands who
have supported the series from the start will continue to build their links with
M-Sport and will support the series through their new and dynamic Kick
Energy brand. Global Brands are planning a series of new initiatives for the
FST series aimed to help competitors and these will be announced as the
year progresses. In addition, M-Sport are proud to announce continued
support for the 2009 series from technical sponsor Pirelli who will again
supply a control tyre for the series.
With the cars able to compete throughout the world in near-identical pan-
European championship events, and in the Fiesta SportTrophy International
without having to change specification, this is the original venture into
international competition and offers direct stepping stone into the World
Rally Championship limelight.
